In 1975 Hisatake Shibuya opened a shop in Tokyo called Electric Sound Products (ESP) to provide custom replacement parts for guitars but it wasn’t long before the direction changed slightly and he was making bodies and necks for a number of US based players. In 1985 after a chance encounter, George Lynch became the subject of their first signature guitar model, the infamous ESP Kamikaze, and the rest, as they say, is history.

ESP have since raised their profile by making and endorsing guitars for players who went on to become leaders in the field of thrash metal, especially the big four - Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth. As a result of this connection, the company has gone on to become one of the main suppliers of guitar products to the heavy metal scene and garnered hundreds of endorsement deals with many of its top players.

The LTD range was established in 1996 as a way of bringing the quality and prestige of the ESP name to a more affordable price bracket and thereby accommodate all players regardless of budget.
